ARTIST & MUSICIAN

Music
Music has been a part of Roddy's life as far back as he can remember. He started playing the acoustic guitar when he was 14, teaching himself from chord books and listening to records.
It was the folk revival and the era of the singer/songwriter that really spoke to him; songs with more poetic lyrics and more complex melodies than the blues and rock genres most of his friends were listening to at the time.
It was the songs of Bob Dylan, Joan Baez, Joni Mitchell and Leonard Cohen that he started to play, followed later by the likes of Nanci Griffith, Steve Earle, Emmylou Harris and Eddi Reader.
Roddy didn't perform in public until he was in his early 30s when he happened upon a folk music session in one of the local pubs he frequented. He quickly became a regular on the North Bucks music scene, either playing solo or collaborating with other singers and musicians like John Close, Michele Welborn, Andy Bridgeman and Andy Fenton amongst others.
So Roddy moved to Bute in 2022 with a wealth of musical experience and a huge catalogue of songs under his belt. In 2024 he started collaborating with local musician, Gerry Geoghegan, and this is proving to be one of his most creative ventures.
